Entry into the Computer Engineering programme

Computer Engineering has 15 places available each year for students entering at the 1st Professional (Year 2) level.

The pathways for entry into the Computer Engineering programme are:

Intermediate Year

The normal entry requirements into the Computer Engineering programme is via the Intermediate Year.  This first year of study is a basic sciences set of foundation courses that prepares students for the professional programme ahead.

Course selection for Intermediate Year Computer Engineering

Direct Entry Requirements to the 1st Professional Year

Students with a good level 3 NCEA performance (or equivalent) may be admitted directly to the 1st Professional Year and is subject to the approval of the Dean of Engineering.

Direct Entry requirements to the 2nd Professional Year for students with a BSc

At least a 'B' average in papers over the final two years.

Major in Mathematics, Physics or with the following minimum:

  • Mathematics at 200 level = 36 points
  • Physics at 200 level = 36 points
  • COSC121 and COSC122

With this option, the student will have the opportunity to gain a double degree (BSc & BE) in five years.

Other considerations: Additional papers at the 200 level or 300 level in either Mathematics, Physics or Computer Science, or any papers in Management, Economics, Accountancy, Finance and Information Systems, will enhance the application for entry into the Second Professional Electrical and Electronic Engineering Year.
